LIVING WITH LUPUS
May 21, 2022
Hi Everyone!
Lupus Association (Singapore) (LAS) will be celebrating World Lupus Day on 10 May and Lupus Awareness Month in May with a month-long virtual event titled “LIVING WITH LUPUS”.
The programme comprises educational talks, handicraft-making, line dancing, a Zumba session, a lucky draw and more, and will be held virtually on 7, 14, 21, and 28 May from 2 pm to 4 pm via Zoom. Speakers at the event include the founding President of LAS, Dr Boey Mee Leng, A/Prof Leong Keng Hong, and Dr. Fu Jia Hui. There will also be a Mindfulness session conducted by the Founder and CEO of Brahms Centre, Adj. A/Prof Angie Chew.
The event aims to raise awareness of Lupus and to empower and encourage Lupus patients to strive to lead normal and healthy lives despite this serious medical condition and the daily challenges that come with it. Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disorder whereby the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s healthy cells. It can affect nearly any organ in the body. There is currently no cure for Lupus, and the condition requires lifelong management. Fortunately, with new treatments and medication and better knowledge of the disease, many people with Lupus can live happy and active lives.
The activities were planned after much patient-centered consideration, bearing in mind their suitability for people living with Lupus, such as their daily struggle with joint pain, fatigue, etc. We hope that people with Lupus and members of the public will participate in the event’s activities to learn about the condition and to celebrate with Lupus patients as they demonstrate their skills and will to live well. The event will also provide an insight into how to better manage the challenges of having an unpredictable disease and for caregivers, loved ones, friends, and colleagues of Lupus patients to learn to understand and support them.
Lupus is a lifelong condition, and it can be difficult to manage. But it doesn’t have to get in the way of living a fulfilling life.
See you all at the event!
